42 is a 40 minute short film that revolves around a Vietnamese refugee family that migrate to Australia leaving behind their homeland that has been ravaged by war. With a new found hope, dreams and trauma they carry with them into a brand new, and daunting cultural setting. Navigating a new and complicated societal terrain. This story tells a story of resilience, overcoming struggles and personal transformation, once an obedient and timid young girl who metamorphoses into a strong brave 42 year old woman. Conquering her fears and leave behind outdated traditional expectations. Being empowered, she guides her siblings through their own unique traumas and immense difficulties to liberation and freedom.
